The Legacy Martial Arts Institute’s Syllabus
Kyoshi Harrell is a Hachidan (8th degree) Black Belt
whose curriculum follows the lineage of a major
branch of traditional Shorin-ryū Okinawan karate,
founded by Chōshin Chibana. Shorin-ryu
Okinawan Karate emphasises linear, hard-style
techniques derived from older Shuri-te. It focuses
on fast, decisive self-defence with powerful strikes,
blocks, and joint manipulations, These are rooted in
the “Small Forest” (Shaolin) tradition which was
passed down to Shugoro Nakazato then to Frank
Hargrove, then to Kyoshi Harrell.
The syllabus includes: Naihanchi, Pinans, Passais,
Chinto, Kusankus and Gojushiho Katas. Kyoshi
Harrell has been studying Okinawan Shorin-Ryu
Karate for more then five decades under the same
teacher.
